Fish-in-a-Bag Soaps

These adorable novelty soaps will get the kids to actually want to take a bath!

You Will Need:

dye

1. Cut your soap base into chunks and melt in the microwave in 30-second increments until completely melted. You will need approximately 1/2 lb of soap for this project.

2. Add fragrance oil and liquid dye. We don't recommend using more than 1 drop of colorant, or the soap will be too dark to see the fish.

poursoap

3. Carefully pour half of the soap base you will be using into the bag, without it running down the sides. This will fill the bag less than 1/4 of the way. Spray the top of the soap with alcohol to eliminate any bubbles.  Position the bag upright between the 2 cups while cooling.

4. Allow the soap to cool until it has formed a thick skin. Gently and carefully press your fish into the soap to position it. If the soap is too hard for the fish to stay put, try putting the bag of soap in the microwave for about 10 seconds to soften it.

5. Heat the rest of your soap base to about 170-175 degrees F. Carefully pour the remaining soap into the bag over the fish and reposition the bag between the cups to prevent it from tipping over. Make sure the cups don't leave dents in the soap. You may need more than 2 for this step.

cooling

6. Once it has cooled, tie the top of the bag closed with a twist tie or ribbon.

To Use the Soap: Make a small cut in the bag and tear it off of the soap. After enough uses, the fish will make a great bath toy! Kids will love trying to get the fish out!

This sounds cute! It reminds me of a clear soap bar that I got from my aunt when I was a kid that had a green alien embedded in it, once I used the soap enough...I got to play with the alien in the tub!

Why don't they just hang the bag from something instead of using the cups? O_o

I think that would look more realistic. :P

    J-

if they hung it from something then it wouldnt stand up on its own.... it needs a flat bottom to be stable when sitting next to the sink or whathaveyou.

We LOVED this idea. We constantly search the web for material to share with our audience of interesting things out there in internet world. This morning we came across your soaps and the fact that 52% of animal related fatalitites in the US are from bulls... we're guessing the other 48% are from chicken gangs.

    Thanks!

I had a hardtime getting the golf fish to stay still and then after using it for a few weeks it started to have an odor.. I am not sure what to do to prevent this... Just kidding of course, my mom is going to visit my nephews next week so I am going to make these tomorrow so she can give it to them. I am sure they will love it. Thanks for the tutorial.

You can stil creat a flat bottom while hanging it. Hang it so that the bag gently rests on the flat surface to creat a flat bottom while keeping it in a more upright position. Think of a swing set ATA . invision the A at each end with the T in the middle. The Vertical of the T is tied to the bag and the horizontal is rested or connected to the A's. See if this works better for those who are a bit picky....like me ; )
