doubleboiler

Step 1:
Melt some wax in a double boiler. Soft container waxes work best for this project since they will easily roll into balls without crumbling.

addfragrance

Step 2:
Once the wax is fully melted, add your fragrance oil, mix thoroughly, and allow the wax to cool inside the pouring pitcher.

rollball

Step 3:
Once the wax has solidified, but is still warm and soft, scoop some wax out of the pouring pitcher and roll it into a ball with your hands.

waxpaper

Step 4:
Place each wax ball on the wax paper and continue working until most of the wax is used up. Leave a few ounces in the pitcher for the colored part of the eyes.

addcolor

Step 5:
Re-melt the leftover wax, add your colored dye, and mix thoroughly. Remove from heat.

Step 6:
Carefully dip each wax ball into the colored wax to make a small colored circle for the iris. Place the balls back on the wax paper with the colored part facing up.

addblack

Step 7:
Add some black dye to the wax and mix thoroughly. If the wax has begun to solidify, place it back on the heat first until it is liquid again. The black liquid dye should overpower the original color, so you shouldn’t need a new batch of wax.

Step 8:
Dip the wax balls into the black wax just a little bit in the center of the colored portion to create the iris. Place them back on the wax paper to finish cooling. Enjoy these fun tarts in your home in an electric or tea light tart warmer or give as fun Halloween gifts!
