Love this idea!! I am new at this as well.  I use 10, 16, and 24 oz apothecary jars.  J223 is my wax and I double wick them with HTP 83. Love them, no soot, smoking or left over wax. I have a 5 oz I am testing and the htp 83 seems to be ok.  I use 6228 for my pillars 3x4 and 3x6 round and I use lx20 love the self-trimming aspect, but not to happy with the melt pool, thinking about trading up to 22 or 24.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! I also make votives and I use rrd 29, which I love.  Great scent throw on them!

I know the HTP wicks are wonderful.  I use IGI waxes, so I definitely know that they recommend HTP for use with their blended waxes.

I have not tested most things enough to be confident about posting.  I have tested the Astorlite PQ, F, and G in 2" pillars.  I really like the RRD-37!!! If it leave a shell at all it is usualy thinner than paper and is easily brused off once the candle is cooled.  Also, there is no dripping or spilling of the wax.  The wax is completely consumed as the candle burns.

I wish they all burned this way!!!

I've been making votives and jars for about 6 years now. Here is what works for me:
IGI 4794 (votive) 44-32-18z  & LX12
J223 (container) 8oz. & 16oz regular mouth  44-32-18z
J223 (container) 16oz. wide mouth 51-32-18z
All of my votives and containers burn completely down to only the metal tab w/nothing on sides.  I also give a typed list of instructions to my customers w/do and don't. They appreciate that cause their candles burn better & longer when done properly!!!

Smiley  Hi Everyone!

Does anybody know if RRD-40 will work for an EcoSoya PB 3" pillar?  I've been using them in my 3" soy containers but do get some mushrooming and soot.   Sad

The RRD-40 and a sample pack of LX is all I have on hand, as I am brand new.  But if someone knows something that will work better, I'd be glad to order it.

Thank you all for your kindness in sharing your knowledge!

Well, it's been just a little over an hr and this is what I see...

26oz Apoths + 15oz honeypots...

604418z-burning the nicest-no mushr, burning slowest ,melt pool 1". (Although during 1st 10 min they were smoking and flame way too high.)

HTP105-beautiful flame, MP 1", and burning a bit faster than zinc.

513218c-same as HTP, except burning down the fastest.

3" pillars...

3/0-seems too be burning the nicest I think.MP 1"

442818c + HTP83- MP .75"

#3-MP 1", but flame too high and smoking a lot.

What do you think?

Thanks again,
Andy

Hello all.  I am new to this board and see alot of great suggestions.  However, my biggest problem isn't with the size of the wick.  I make my own.  My biggest problem I have encountered is what I can use to keep the wick staying straight.  I have used clothespins.  However, when the hole for a container candle is wider than a clothespin.  What can I use.  I have gone to the local dollar store and gotten shidh kabob sticks.  I use them for both sturing but also I take two of them and cut them longer than the mouth of the container and tape the two sticks together on one side.  I then slip the wick between the two sticks and then tape the other end together.  The problem I encounter is when I cut the tape to get the wick out I end up with an imperfect product.  Since the wax is soft and a single pour type.  This makes it difficult to end up with a perfect candle.  Any suggestions?

I use a popcicle stick with a hole drilled in the middle of it.  I pull the wick up thru the hole and then use a clothespin to secure it.  Works really well for me.

Another newbie questions. I have read all 5 pages on this topic. It has been soo helpful. I have noticed all the different styles of wicks such as zink, lx, cd, and paper core. I need to start testing some votives. I use straight 135 melt point paraffin with about 1oz FO per lb wax. Could someone suggest what brand to start testing with?  Undecided Thanks

I am testing new fo's in 8oz square mason jars with no luck.  I am testing fig and melon and fresh linen and have used 60z(the largest one) and HTP 105 and 126.  Taking 5-6 hours to get a good melt pool with slight hang up on the sides.  This is also not the first burn it is about the 4th.  I am using 4627 comfort blend wax.  Any suggestions?

I am a newbie also.  I am testing the 4627 as well and it does take quite a while to get a full melt pool.  I notice the color makes a difference also.  So I am back to the testing board.  But yeah, 5-6 hours for a full melt pool is about right for me also.  I am testing tins.

oh wow! what size container are you all using?? 4627 is about one of the lowest mp waxes out there and there's no way it should take 5-6 hrs for a full meltpool unless you are using a large diameter container that is drastically underwicked!
