I've begun testing RRD's with soy, both container and pillar and am loving them so far! I had been using HTP but the RRD's are working sooooo much better. 3" pillars, Astrolite F & PQ - RRD 50 (sometimes 47) WalMart elevation jars, KY 125 - RRD 47

Here's my "wick" question: My sister dropped off a really nice crock candle in the shape of a pear. It is just about emptied of the wax and I am melting it as we speak. It is approx. 5 inches wide (at it's widest) and almost 4" tall. (I will be pouring J223 when I refill it). There were 3 wicks in it and I pulled them out and they looked somewhat thick, but I haven't a clue as to their actual wick size. (I did measure them up against the 62-52-18z wicks I have and they appear to match the size/width) but I am thinking it might too much of a FLAMING fireball when lit (?) Any suggestions? (I have 51z, 44z, and the 62z). Just not sure which to use on this chunky crock. TIA!

Never posted here before, but I completely understand about wicking suggestions and confusion. I read through and didn't see anyone post the chart at candlewic, its hard to locate, but they have a great chart for starting out. The link in below, HTH http://www.candlewic.com/candle-wicks/pop-spools.asp

I use a reg 141mp wax and add 1 tblspn per pound, for pillars that approx. 3" I use 2/0 square cotton braided wick, haven't made any votives in a while... so I"d have to test those all over again... and 4" to 5" I use a 36 ply. I think this thread is a great idea sorry I didn't see it sooner... I have lots of wicking questions too...

Hello, I am new a posting and candlemaking. This is the first time I have seen this site. I think it is wonderful. I use IGI 4786 wax with 8oz straight dided jelly jars. My wicks are 51-32-18z. I have good reslts with the pool but now that I have been reading the board I am worried that I might be missing something that I should have noticed. I have wet spots on the jars when they have completely cooled. I'm not sure if it matters but I thought maybe I have been heating my jars to hot. I read on another site that you don't have to poke holes before the second pour, Is this true. Sorry for so many questions on the first posting. Please help.

Maybe I missed something here but.......what size would you use for a 4"x4" jar of soy wax ? I have used 2 htp 105's and just tried using 2 62-52-18c wicks. The melt pool with the 18c's are very deep and I'm wondering if this could be overkill ? The 105's sometime work poorly in certain oils and dyes. Thanks

I think this is a wonderful idea!! I'm am a "very newbie" and going through product testing every weekend (my workdays usually run 10-12 hours so Saturday's are my only "fun" days when I can make candles). I'd be pleased to post successful results. Hope everyone can participate!!

This is fantastic. I've found answers to some of my wick problems. Suggestion: If a list of wicks/containers is made, why not go a step further and tell what wax that is used with each wick.. Thanks bunches

Try one size up on your wicks and see if it works...

a complete newbie, and i have two bags of wicks that are confusing me. i can only identify them by their tags stamped onto the baggies. one says "wick raw 1/10 square 10 yd" and the other states that the contents are "chopped off here-20-18 wxd ctn cr 10 yd waxed 8 wick 10 yds" i suppose Yids are yards and Wixds are waxed? help confused, mary jennets

This is so great. I am new and I posted a new post but I cant find it so I did it wrong LOL. I am starting to do pillars and I am lost. I have a 3x4, 3x6 and 3x9 seamless mold and I am lost about the wicks. I want to use pretabbed wicks because I dont understand the concept of the other wicks. Cant figure out what u do with the part of wick sticking out of the bottom of the mold. I am sorry I sound so stupid but its because I am. Anyone care to help a LOST SOUL?
