Going Back to Work

I've been a SAHM for a long time, and for the first time went back for an 8-week temp job. It was great (the money, I mean) and now that all the kids are in school I *really* need a job. We've been living on my husband's meager income with a growing family forEVER. How the heck to make the transition, though, I donno. I applied at a couple local places like Target, just to get some experience and my foot in the door. Any advice on this? Any places you've found a nice transitional workplace? I don't really want anything I have to take home with me (if that makes sense).

I think temp work is nice to get your feet back into the working arena. You'll get a nice variety of jobs to do and it might help you to determine what area you want to work in. It might even lead to a permanent job. The only drawback to temp work is that it might not always be steady, but, on the other hand, you can pick and choose when you will work and when you won't. You can sign up at places like Kelly Work Force. I did that while I was looking for a job in the field I had gone to school for. Temp agencies can actually be good at keeping you busy. We just hired our temp receptionist - at first she told us she could only stay for 6 months but she decided she liked it and applied for the job and got it. Good luck and WELCOME to the work force.

Sara, sounds like you already have gotten your feet wet. If you are looking for a the kind of job you don't take home I think grocery stores, walmart, little mom and pop stores even daycare. Try a couple of places if things don't work out at the first place you get, what is important is you feel good about the people around you. I am sure you will shine at whatever you do and I wish you the best of luck. Keep us posted.
