Saw someone on another board talking about this and wondered if anyone has a recipe. My son gets this stuff so bad in the summer that it would be great to be able to make a soap that helps with the itching.

Oooh, I want this too! My hubby uses about 4 or 5 of those Burt's Bees Poison Ivy soap bars every few months. He really gets a lot of it working outdoors. Anyone gonna share?

I am very allergic to Poision Ivy. I recently spoke to someone that had to go to the ER for a cortisone shot after getting a really bad case of PI. It seems like I recall a black soap bar for treating poision ivy or some other type of rash being used when I was a child. It had a medicine type smell that I recall being yuky. I saw a melt and pour base for black soap somewhere. Humm, I'll check around and see what I come up with.

Last year my 12 year old got PI so bad we had to take him for a prednisone shot, which is steroids. He had it so bad you couldn't tell if had a neck. Just shoulders and a head. LOL

That probably was prednisone shot like sweetnothings mentioned instead of cortizone in my post. I could not find any type of recipe for PI soap. I learned that the soap I mentioned above was Black Pine Tar Soap. It was suppose to be useful in treating ezema. I can't remember if it actually helped Poision Ivy at all. What sticks out in my memory was the unpleasant smell. I hope someone else responds with a recipe for you.

I don't have a recipe, but my husband also had a very bad case a few years ago. He had it everywhere....never pee in the woods while cutting firewood...ahem. Anyway, he had the shot & all of that, but to make the rash dry up we bought some homemade "lye soap". I have no idea what it has in it, but I guess it was what they used to scrub laundry with in the old days. He lathers that up with COLD water & then covers the affected area & leaves it on there & lets it dry. Seems to dry the blisters right up. Seems I remember them telling me that there was a hight amount of lye in it. Anyway, hope that helps. Karen

| Been there, done that - I was painting boundary lines for a timber company. Anyways, the soap I used was like you describe and it was called Octagon Laundry Soap. Nasty smelling stuff and I believe it'd almost take your skin off with a little scrubbing, but it worked for my rash. That, plus Calamine Lotion and antihistamines.

When I was a kid my mom would use Fells Naptha soap on us. I remember it was a huge bar in a red wrapper. We also bathed in oatmeal for the itching as well as taking the shots! Boy am I glad I know what that shit looks like! I haven't had PI in 30 years! lol
