Bath Salt QUESTION to do w/ LAVENDER

I have a neat recipe for bath salt that you layer in a jar.  One of the layers is dried LAVENDER buds.  I'm a little worried about putting that directly in the bath tub won't this plug the bath tub?  TIA Wink

I wouldn't recommend it..  lol  Lavender buds get caught in weird places that you find after you've been out of the tub for a while.

That's funny LOL  Cheesy

So much for the pretty layered look -the recipe had a layer of white salt, lavendar buds, purple colored salt (more to it, you get the idea Wink).  Think I'll just throw in a tea bag to be safe Smiley

ANOTHER question, I'll also post in general discussions also, I did bath salts approx 2 months ago, epson, dead sea salt, B&B colorant, and EO.  Packaged in tubes and now they are all watery at bottom (WHY Huh).  They've been in a/c so its not the humidity. TIA Smiley

I would open one and pour it out and see. My guess is some kind of reaction with the air and the tube and condensation forming, I have the air on in my soap room and still have to have a fan on my soap or it will seep or sweat, think my ac is on the blink. You could also turn the upside down and see if it reabsorbs the moisture, also give the a sniff.  Just suggestions don't really know what is going on.

I would try adding some cornstarch to your recipe and that should bind the molecules of the oil and colouring to the salts.  This will give it a powdery appearance and a longer shelf life.

Thank you so much for that idea Smiley.  At what point should I add the cornstarch (after mixing FO, dye, and salt)?

I have also found that when I add the FO or EO to dead sea salt it gets a greasy look to it.  BUT when I add it to bath salts it doesn't. Huh weird it must be the makeup of the two.

Also how does everyone package there product.  Does plastic and glass also make a difference when it comes to stopping the watery effect? TIA

When I make a bath tea or soak with real herbs I package them in a container and attach a muslin bag.  You just scoop a few teaspoons out into the bag and you still soak in the herbs... just not the mystery pieces that you find later.  Tongue

Just a thought.

QUESTION:  if you attach one muslin bag do you empty it and reuse it?  if so how do you get all the herbs out don't they stick to the bag?

Did I say I love this idea?  I bought the little wooden 1 tbsp scoops to go w/ this recipe so I can attach these too!  Did I say THANKS for the idea Grin  Grin  Grin
