Nice labels! Cheesy
Are the ends of the soap packaged or do they just stick out bare?

Everything looks outstanding as usual, wouldn't expect anything less. Labels are very eye catching!

I still sell at $5/bar, though I've heard many people are starting to go up closer to $6 and $7 in some areas (more like $1.25 to $1.50/oz). $5 gives me plenty of profit..

The very end of the bars stick out about 1/4th inch on both ends. Just enough to sniff them, but not enough to get them all dirty from laying on display. (I hope)

No matter how I want my labels to look, it seems like I always end up with the same look on them. LOL I like plain and simple, but when I get them done, I am not happy with them. I love some of the labels you all do and start out with a plan, but always go back to the same "look". I would love to get decals and do a see thru label with black print, but its taken me too long to get this far and I am happy with the look so I think I will stick with it and see how they do.
One thing I have noted is that on the soaps I sold before, some were packaged (kinda like I have now) and some were bare, the loose ones sold far better than the neat packaged ones.. never could figure that one out. Maybe it was because they looked more like old time homemade soaps, or they could smell them better..?

Thanks everyone for the nice replies about the soaps, I don't want to cheapen the craft/art of soap making by throwing junk out there to try to make a buck. You really do have to test your products. Its been 18 months for me from first batch to the first date of selling them. I have been a member of a soapers board for about 5 years now, and have read for 5 years about soap making so I can get to this point where I think my product is good enough to put my name on it. Test Test Test

Hi curtis, thanks.
I took a quick look on the web and the first place I looked had them, dont know if thats a good price for them or not, but its a start.
http://www.oasisupply.com/Products/Products.asp?CategoryID=132
3 inch X 28.5 inch
Plastic cake collar is what this site calls them.
200 strips that make 4 bands each for $20.00 and shipping. Thats only 2.5 cents a band so I dont think thats bad for the protection and glossy look. These things have been sitting in my basement for 6 or 7 years and are maybe a touch yellowed, but Im probably the only one when would care.
I did try to shrink them just for shizits and grins, they didnt do too bad, but too much heat made them get weird and bubble a little. I thought as the soaps age I could hit them with the heat gun to shrink tighter, but dont know now.
Hope they sell fast enough that I dont have to try to shrink them.

Better yet

500 foot bulk sounds like a good deal to me.
Less than 2 cents each that way per soap.

YOur soaps and packaging look great. I know what you mean about unpackaged soaps selling better, I sell my soaps at shows unpackaged in display them in big baskets and people swarm to them,I don't know what the appeal is, I hate that so many people touch them but for some reason the buyers don't seem to mind...

The other thing that worked that way was bath salts, I used to package them very nicely in frosted bags and nice labels but only sold a few LBS st shows, then I started putting them in big tubs, about 8 different fragrances and I cannot believe how fast they sell, we sell them by the pound and bag them right there and poeple buy them like they are going out of style...

You just never know what makes things sell until you try them

Again, awesome soaps

Hey thanks for the great idea on the bath salts, I bet that would be the best way to sell them. (picturing one gallon glass jars for them..)
I had a display that had both packaged and unpackaged soaps and the unpackaged ones sold 4 to 1 and it sure dont take long to get them ready to sell! LOL Its taking me longer to trim and package the darn soap than it is to make it! I spent over 3 hours on them last night and didnt get but about 60 packaged for retail. I could have made 60 more bars in less time than that!

I like to see the soap too. I just bought some homemade soap to try out a week ago and you could smell it but not see it thru the package. (which by the way looked cool, it was brown paper towel like what you use in restrooms to dry your hands and a band around it!) I figure if your gona make it a color or swirl, you better have a way to show it or whats the use?

i totally agree!!
Bruce, have you ever tried the soap shrink bands before? They really do work great and one side is perforated for easy removal.
Totally love the look of your packaging. That's similar to how i package mine. I wanted the soap to show thru, but didn't want peeps fingering them all up. It's a nice solution i think.

As for the price, my soaps weight 4 oz on average and i charge 5.00 a bar for them. I've not ever had anyone complain of the price and i've seen soaps as high as 10.00 a bar!

I used them on the soaps that I sold 18 months ago at Christmas. I liked them, but this has a better smoother gloss to them. If I ever get yours in the mail, you will see what im talking about. The reason I tried to shrink them this time was that I was making them up just like the soap bands your talking about and then sliding them on the soaps, but some soaps were a little larger or smaller, so I though of using a heat gun. After working with them for a while, I found it way faster to just wrap each one and its worked out great so far, nice and tight.

Bruce,
You could do the glass jars or get big bins (many things work for that) that way you don't have to keep refilling you just scoop from the bins and weigh them as they purchase them and put in the bags.

I thing it is the whole interactive thing and people like that  you are personally making the salts up for them. I sell them for $5 a LB. They are the first thing you see when you walk up to my booth, they draw people like magnets.

I also did the same thing with the bath bombs, put them in containers so you could see them then when purchased drop them in a cello, tied and done. They did great at last show as well.

NOTE; I still package my soaps when they are purchased from my website etc. I cannot even fathom the idea of sending a bare bar of soap in the mail LOL
