Yesterday was our first day to add soaps to our line. We had sold some other soaps that were made by friends of ours about a year and a half ago and we have been playing around since then testing and formulating. I wanted to do a hang tag kind of display with a header and celo package that would let you see the soaps full view and keep it up off the table. That didnt look right, the header looked great and the soaps just didnt look good thru the celo. I was wondering if the soap being in celo would sweat and might go bad faster, so with it not looking the way i wanted it to and the idea that it might not be good for the soaps to be closed up all the way, this was the packaging i came up with. The bars have a heavy plastic sleeve around them and the label is put on the plastic sleeve. Pack rat that I am, I had some old plastic that came from the grocery store that we used to make boston cream pies with.... you know the clear plastic that wraps around the pies side to keep all the gooey stuff from running all over the place? Its 3 inch wide and if I cut it into 4 pieces i get 3inch by 6.75 inch wraps that fit very very snug around the soaps and give them a super thick high gloss when you look at the back to see the soaps. This stuff is thick and works like a charm, dont know if I could have found anything better to use. Spent about 2 days working on the layout of the info and pics for the labels. Hope you all like them.

I really like both the look of the soap and the labels~ I haven't been around long enough to know, do you do your labeling? or have it done professionally? however you do it, it looks great! Nice work.

Since this is my job, I guess you could say I professionally do them myself. LOL  Grin
Ash,
Gona have to wait on the soap carving, I made a mushroom out some of the soap scraps and it looked bad, really bad!

Looks great.  Did you have to fold the plastic to mold it around the soap?

Oh another thing, I sold them for 5.00 each and told peeps that was my intro price and that it would probably go up.
What is the going retail for a 4.5 ounce soap these days? The packaging takes tons of time but looks sharp, I just dont want to get stuck with a lower retail and then someone wants to buy wholesale and wants it for half. If I didn't have to label, trim and polish the things I could sell them for $5.00 or less all day long, but....

I like the idea that the soap is wrapped but you can still see it through the back.  Very smart idea!

No, I tried to fold the plastic and it made a white "bend" in the plastic, so I just wrap it and use clear tape to make it tight. It took a while to get them to wrap tight, but I got the hang of it after a while, the tape is covered by the label so they look like the shrink bands that you buy, just way more gloss. They are hard to slide off since it seems like the ends of the soap are wider, but thats good because of any more shrinkage I might have.

I like to see the soap too. I just bought some homemade soap to try out a week ago and you could smell it but not see it thru the package. (which by the way looked cool, it was brown paper towel like what you use in restrooms to dry your hands and a band around it!) I figure if your gona make it a color or swirl, you better have a way to show it or whats the use?

Bruce, you are the man!  They look great and the packaging was ingenious.  Of course, I don't think I'd expect anything less, as I have viewed pics of your candles and they are awesome, too!!!
