Can I make my lye water ahead of time?  If the lye water is room temperature instead of the normal 100 degrees will that make a difference with how fast the soap will trace and so forth?  Do you get what I'm saying Huh  Thanks

I always use room temp lye when I can. My first batches of the day use cool lye. Later in the day I'm too impatient to wait and don't want to mess around with ice baths and such.

Cooler lye really helps me keep my buttermilk soaps a lighter color - that's another benefit. And finicky FOs work a bit better too.

If you want gel, watch your insulation. If you're also working with cooler oils, gel will take longer to start.

Make sure you keep it in an out of the way place so someone doesn't have an accident.

Sounds like a good plan..That's basically what I've done..or the night before and mix soap next morning...But I have poured out my last 2 batches of water cause something happened and I was afraid it had set too long..lol

I use room temp. lye also.

I mix mine at least 24 hrs before I use it.  Sometimes it sits for a couple of days before I use it.  I have not had a problem.
