made my first CP soap Saturday evening... it really wasn't as bad as I had thought.. I did fine with the lye ... LOL - but I'm sure the neighbors thought I was making a bomb or something with my goggles & gloves.... smells pretty good - I used Grapefruit - but I was 1oz short on olive oil so I used 1oz of coco butter and I can kinda smell that.... so now - I have to leave it sit for 4/6 weeks.. ? it seems hard now...

Yay Teri, pics pics, if you didn't discount water you will have to wait fot it to cure for 4 to 6 weeks but you can certainly try it out in a couple of days, just make sure there is no zap. Sounds yummy, the cocoa butter smell may fade if you only used that much. What flavor is your next batch

not sure that I want to post pics yet.. the mold was kinda small so the bars are too.... dumb question... what do you mean by discounting the water - now remember I am really new at this so be nice.... I have no idea about the next one.. I'm wanting to try a kitchen soap that you make with coffee but it calls for palm oil and I can't find it anywhere.... could I use Grapeseed or Apricot Kernel instead? Thanks much !

You can use lard in place of palm. Don't worry about discounting water yet, it is when you use a less amount of water, shouldn't have even brought it up. Got to get a few batches under you belt before thinking about that stuff. Sorry. Still want to see Pics. Or you could use shortening just make sure you run it thought the calulator. Pic Pics

Lard doesn't smell at all, just heat it gently. You can use Crisco. Google Millers Soap Site you can get a lot of info there, I believe she has recipes without palm oil. good luck
