Why does my soy container have white flecks in it?

I think I know the answer to this one - but please don't laugh at me and point, we all know I'm still a newbie at this. A few of my tan/grey shades of candles will tend to have white specks in them after they cool completely. I use liquid dye, and the only speckled ones are the ones that are either gray (one drop black pp), tan (3 parts red to 1 parts blue to 1 parts yellow) or a darker brown color. I add my color at all the same temp (around 175-180*) and add FO at about 170*. I've seen frosting on the tops of some of mine, so I know it's not the same - these flecks of white are throughout the candle, from top to bottom. Should I add my black and tans at a higher temp?

This happens to my candles also, mostly with the brown shades. Lately we have had 90 degree weather and without central air, the candles I make get this. They are actually tiny air bubbles. I am not 100% sure, but my conclusion is the candle is getting too hot and softening, therefore creating the bubbles. I had a complete batch of brown candles do this, and ya just can't fix them no matter what. And they did not start out that way, they gradually picked up the "white flecks". HTH Tracy

Ah-ha! I'm not alone! I'm in Phoenix, so it's been routinely above 110* for about a month now. That makes total sense that it could be the heat. I guess I'll either have to live with it, change colors or quit pouring those scents (yeah right). Thanks for the help! Danielle

Here's what I do to fix the poopy looking candles. I put the candles in the oven and remelt, pour into my pour pot and let cool and add a little more FO to replace what the reheating took out and they seem to come out okay. I just had to do this to 4 batches. Our air is being worked on and it's too hot to make candles, so today I got up at 4am and made candles until it got too hot. I had to remake brown, blue and purple candles. HTH Tracy

You can Call me crazy if you like... but the tiny little white spots (SPECKLES) in my head and as long as I have played with my soy my conclusion is not only are they tiny tiny air bubbles that are forming but they are also tiny particles of FAT Saturated or whatever is left over from the oil in the soy.. that is not compleatly grabbing hold of the dye itself...I know that when I re-heat a small area on the jar with the heat gun and bring all the tiny bubbles up to the top that when it re-hardens .. that they are still there(not all but some).. but in a small area when re-heated and stirred with a tooth pick it dissapears.. AGAIN CALL ME CRAZY ..I HAVE ACTUALLY SPOONED IT OUT AND PUT ON A SMALL PIECE OF BLACK PLASTIC SUCH AS A CORNER OF A GARBAGE BAG AND PLAYED WITH THAT... lol MAGNIFYING GLASS.. AND TO ME IT ACTS AS IF IT is fat NOT PICKING UP THE DYE... IF THAT IS NOT THE CASE I HAVE A GREAT IMAGINATION lol forgive me for the caps ... just relized they were on.. not shouting.. but not feeling like re-writing either... hugs Cathy

HEY CATHY!!!!!! Just kidding. Okay, your theory sounds good, but then throw in the fact that it happens pretty much on hot or humid days. I'm with ya, if we can figure this out, we have the answer to one of Soy's million dollar questions!!!! I guess I just never really investigated it too much, as long as I could get rid of it, I was happy , not ecstatic , but happy . And then wouldn't fat kinda be more apt to melt in with everything on hotter days? I'm not arguing with ya, I'm just as curious as others on these damn white flakes. We'll figure this out Watson, we'll figure this out.

Love your answer CSAS.. I think it does not matter what time of year it is...Last winter I was investgating this..Just call me HOLMES LOL and yes you would think the heat would melt the fat.. but then we have already melted it before we pour .. It is like my stubborn belly fat.. can't get rid of that either.. ....... Cathy

Aaahh, that damn belly fat. Nobody wants it, but everybody has it!!! Mine won't leave me alone. I keep losing it and it keeps find me!!! See, I don't have a major problem with the white flecks in the cooler days, just these damn hot & humid ones. I don't really notice the white flecks in my candles anymore, unless there is a crapload of the, like lately. But what you said could be true. I just remelted some Lilacs, and repoured them and only the top half has the white flecks now. But, what about this. I had candles that I poured in my pouring room, they sat there for about 5 days. I would say on day 3, is when I started to see the flecks. So, are you saying that they started to soften, which then caused the air bubbles and the fat deposits? I HATE FAT!!!!!!!!!! As if my butt weren't enough for it, now it's taking over my candles!!!!!

You are crazier then ME...LOL It is just the frosting setting up.. which in my head.. is the fat...I do not know if you use beeswax or not.. but the beeswax does seem to control most of the white flecks..... if you really check it out it seems like it is layers and layers of the white..(FAT)lol..the are compiled with each other.. I think another name for Beeswax could be RELACORE..LOL Cathy

So, a teaspoon of beeswax 1/2 hour before each meal and you'll lose weight instantaneously!!! You didn't know I was crazy?? Let me introduce myself. Hi, my name is Tracy, and I'm crazy. At least I think I am, let me check. Yep, I'm crazy. I think between the FO and my kids, they did one HE!! of a job!! Okay I see now and I agree with everything you say. So now how do I make it not happening? Huh, Holmes, Huh Do you remember the old Dunkin Donuts commercial?? "It's time to make the donuts" I say that everyday. "It's time to make the Candles" (But I love it, everyday)
