OK I switched!

Hi Guys, I am a newbee to candle making ( since December ) and up until now I have used Paraffin ( J223, Comfort Blend and 1945 in various combinations )
I have purchased my first 50/50. I have read and read and know that testing is the answer for most questions but if any of you could give me some insight from your opinion I would appreciate it.
I was told by my supplier ( great, smart guy Smiley) that I would wick the 50/50 about the same as I have been wicking the 1945. The consistancy seems about the same.It is nice and soft. He said that it will hold a heavy FO ( up to 12%)
My question is, I have read that the cure time is up to two weeks with Soy. Is this true with the 50/50 also? Is it longer than the 24-48 hours with Paraffin? I won't have the opportunity to "play" with it for awhile and I am anxious to learn about the 50/50 blend. I did a searh on it and really didnt get much. Anything I need to know about the 50/50 that is different from straight Paraffin will be appreciated. Melting temp? Adding FO temp? Pouring temp?
If this is too many questions you can ignore or direct me back to test and find out for myself ( which I know I will have to do ) but I would love to have all the info I can get.
Grins,
Michael

I use a 50/50 soy paraffin blend..EZpour from the former KH now keystone..I love it! I use zinc wicks..and most FO's take 1.5oz FO per #..there are a few like black canyon that I can do 1oz or it sweats out. I have burned some that I just made and they had a great throw..I am sure with curing it would be even better though.

ooops..forgot..did they give you the melting instructions..mine is 175 add dye/fo..cool to 150-155 and pour.

Hi Michael!
I also use a 50/50 blend, and found that by using a hotter burning wick, we were able to DRASTICTLY (sp?) cut back on our curing time! We originally used zinc and were curing AT LEAST a week, and then we were getting a SLOW throw w/ our first burn...very frustrating to say the least...After reading here, I decided to try a hotter burning wick, in my case we now use CDs for most oils. The scent then releases right away, and w/ a 24' cure, most times! Grin
We use 1.5oz/lb, heat to 165', add FO, stir 2 mins, pour.
So far, so good, have to add though that we have always added some J223 to our mix... Best of luck! Wink

Its official-- I switched too!

I still have some 1945 left over. And Michael, I am not even going to tell you that I JUST started capitalizing on the 10% retention of 1945!!! *Ducks*   Tongue

I was wondering, I'm doing tarts right now (rightfully so as I have run out of wicks!). Can I add my leftover 1945 to this?  Will this boost my soy's retention up?

Thanks Smiley
