Hi. The greenhouse is done (forever)! Now I am back to "bug" everybody! What constitutes adequate stirring when adding FO and before pouring? I'm testing 100% soy with 2% beeswax, slight color and full load of FO. Sometimes I think maybe I don't stir enough and the FO sinks to the bottom. Maybe? Also, does the burn quality of the wax change upon curing say 2 days vs. 2 weeks? I am going for burn quality more than throw at this point. Thanks in advance for all the great help. I hope to catch up with my 2 1/2 months off and be ready to start selling this fall! Beth

It's been suggested to stir for at least 2 minutes. I try to do that! Also the longer your candles cure burn quality and FO change. (I didn't mean the scent of the FO!!!)

I guess I do not go by the suggested time for stirring.. I just add fo at 165-170 and stir around maybe 10 -15 times.. my arm would never go for a 2 minute limit...as my wax cools I will stir a few more times then right before pouring I will give it a few more stirs... I never had a problem with my fo or wax setting up and still get a fantastic hot & cold throw...as far as curing the longer you cure it.... the better..but there are many Fo's out there that will cure in 3-5 days... if they do not... I refuse to use them...Glad to see you are back at your candle fetish Cathy

I definitely do not stir for 2 minutes, my arm would fall off too. I pour the FO in right before I am going to pour into the jars and I stir for maybe about 30-45 seconds. I feel that the oil is adequately mixed. So I guess it's not how long or how many times, but if you think it's mixed. So, if you think your FO is sinking to the bottom of the bowl, maybe mix more. But I betcha everyone has a different answer on this one. I know this didn't help, but maybe if you see what the majority is, that might.

I stir until I can tell the scent has been incorporated into the wax. I also do a quick stir right before I pour. You have to be careful that you don't over stir and cause airbubbles. After awhile, you'll be able to tell how long you need to stir. Some FOs require more stirring than others.

I stir about 2 minutes when I add FO. Sometimes I cheat and stop at about 1 min. Then, when temp reaches about 110, I stir for another minute, just to ensure even cooling. I've heard recommended that you wait 48 hours after pouring before test burning, but I usually only waited 24. You just want to make sure your candle is cooled all the way so you can get an accurate burn.

Welcome Back I'd look to see at what temp to add your FO (should come w/ your wax directions). The temp for adding your FO to wax is crucial for binding and each wax is alittle differ in their recommendations. If added when too hot FO will burn off and too cold it won't bind w/ wax. I stir right after I add FO and I too look to see if its been stirred in. You can only do that if your wax color isn't too dark -you can actually see the oil when you pour it in and once mixed in you can't see it anymore. I mix again just before I pour. Some FO's need a longer cure time than others. If you burn a candle and find its not strong you can trim the wick and cap it for another week or two and test again! HTH My wax instructions say to add at 175 to bind w/ wax.

Thanks to everybody! It's so good to start pouring again! I'm still testing wicks and FO but today, I did stir a bit longer and tomorrow I will try for almost 2 minutes. I will look and see if I can see the oil. Hadn't even thought of that duh! Now if I can just pour the FO for weighing without getting spilling it . It seems to run down the jar and all over. Maybe I'm too used to watering all those tomato transplants. LOL. And, I will try and resist the temptation to burn too soon. Please just bear with my dumb questions and maybe not to long from now I'll be able to help someone else out. Beth

If your temp is between 165-170 degrees when you add your fo.. it will bind into the wax...I feel that there is no need to stir even 1 minute ... like I said before.. I have no problem with anywhere from 10-15 stirs after i add my Fo..It binds and does not leak out..and I have fantastic results... that is with 100% soy.... Cathy
