What is the difference between a heat gun and a hair dryer? I dont think I have seen a heat gun, so.. might be obvious just by looking!

They look similar, but the heat gun would toast your hair! Not to mention scalp, face, etc... Also a hair dryer blows much harder. HTH

A heat gun is MUCH much hotter than a hair dryer, and doesnt blow out the air with as much force. They do look kinda similar though.

What Ducky said - I tried using my hairdryer, but it just wasn't working out for me because it is not hot enough. I found a heat gun at Wal-Mart in the paint/plumbing area for $20. Best thing I ever invested in (besides my Presto)

Also the heat guns do not have as much air flow out as the hairdryers..... much hotter etc.. the hairdryers can blow the melted wax all over the place.... mine is a Wagner paint stripper i got at Walmart for $20.....great investment!!

Speaking of heat guns, mine only has "on" and "off" and heats to (I believe) 900 degrees. Haven't I read somewhere about heat guns that actually have two settings? I don't know if the two settings have to do with temperature or with how hard they blow. In either case I think that might be a handy option. If anyone has one, would you share what brand it is or where you found it? TIA, Ginger

Heat gun with two speeds...I have two: Milwaukee - has Low and High Wagner - has Cool and High...Cool is actually Low. The Wagner blows out the air with more force than the Milwaukee. I use the Wagner to clean up my pour pots; melts the wax quickly so I can wipe out with a paper towel. I use the Milwaukee for leveling candle tops and shrink wrapping. Bought both at Home Depot; I think! Possibly one at Lowes. Hope this helps.

I bought an embossing gun from Michaels, and it works great, but I have to be careful when I shrink wrap-that baby gets HOT.

Mine has 2 settings. The low speed is I think about 750 degrees and less air. Here is a picture of the box.
