It looks like a preservative that isn't used much since it might be an irritant. Wash off products only I guess because of that factor. It's not a common one that homecrafters can get their hands on easily, but I haven't really searched around for it.

I read an article on this one Methylisothiazolinone, also called MIT and they are now saying that pregnant women need to stay away from this one cause there are preliminary studies that are coming out saying this one can not only cross over the placenta to the baby but can also cross the blood/ brain barrier and possibly harm the development of the brain. It was an article on the containing research as to why more and more kids seem to be showing signs of ADD and autism. I find it a lot in shampoos and conditioners. Many popular name brands have this in it that I have found. I'll see if I can find the article and post a link. modified to say that the article I read was within the last few months and is different from the one that is listed on info. link above
