Castille soap

A few months ago, I made a castille soap using 100% olive oil with no FO. I used it once after a few weeks and it seemed really nice. I put it away to let it fully cure but now that it has, it seems very drying to my skin.  Huh  Is this why you don't see most people using a 100% OO in their castille soap and they add other oils and butters? Or is this just perhaps my skin and the way it seems to react to the use of just OO in soap? Prior to me making the castille soap, I had never used an OO soap before so that is why I am not sure how it is supposed to be.

I can't really answer your question but I can tell you that when I was making castille I was told to put 25% coconut oil in it.  That was supposed to help speed up trace and also give you less cure time.

Hi Meca,

I have let this soap cure since March so I know its cured long enough. It just confuses me because the intial test of it didn't dry my skin and it had only cured for a few weeks. Now its had an even longer cure and should have gotten better with age and it dries my skin out Huh

I ran my recipe through the calc and used:
32 oz OO
10 oz water
4 oz lye

Perhaps its just this aging skin of mine that isn't fond of that much OO. I always have to be the odd man out -  since its drying to my sking when it isn't usually drying to others would be any different.  Tongue
