And Boston, sorry can't help ya with the almond oil question in body sprays.  I don't use it for that.

Thanks!  It never crossed my mind to do any B&B until my daughter asked me to make body spray and after reading this thread, I was kind of worried it was looking too easy.

TDF has instructions I can understand, but I didn't know if those instructions were like some for candles.  Sometimes the recommendations for soy are way off as far as heat and pour temps and since this is going to be sprayed on my daughter, I didn't want to mess it up.

Thanks again.

I found this in my searches:

"Silicone emollients are occlusive - that is they coat the skin, trapping anything beneath it, and do not allow the skin to breathe (much like plastic wrap would do.) Recent studies have indicated that prolonged exposure of the skin to sweat, by occlusion, causes skin irritation. Some synthetic emollients are known tumour promoters and accumulate in the liver and lymph nodes. They are also non-biodegradable, causing negative environmental impact.· Dimethicone · Dimethicone Copolyol · Cyclomethicone"

Now I'm afraid lol..  can the spray with witch hazel be used as a body spray too?  Does it interfere with the strength or original scent from the FO at all?

Hi!
I am currently using the recipe that was
posted with 6 oz.distilled water, 2 oz. witch hazel & 1 oz.F.O.
I think the Strength/Quality of your F.O. would
determine how strong or how long your fragrance will last.
Here is what I found on witch hazel:
Before making its way onto the shelves in various formulations for skincare and pharmaceutical use, witch hazel begins as a flowering shrub. Indigenous to the northeastern and central U.S., witch hazel or Hamamelis virginiana has many interesting features. Its horticultural designation, which means "together with fruit," reveals one: its fruit (a nutty seedpod), its flowers, and next year's leaf buds all appear on the branch together — a rarity among trees.

The alternative name "Snapping Hazel" hints at another: the tree ejects its seeds explosively into the air, insuring widespread propagation without overcrowding. And because it blossoms bright yellow in the darkening days of fall and winter, witch hazel is also called "Winterbloom."

Witch hazel is a small shrub that offers big value — an efficacious herbal extract with exceptional cleansing, soothing, and healing properties. Native Americans, who used witch hazel bark and twigs in many therapeutic applications, passed on their knowledge to early settlers. The settlers subsequently refined the process for extracting essential oils from the pulp material through a distillation process, producing the clear, all-natural liquid astringent that has become an American tradition.

So if you are using this version and use a skin safe oil, I would say yes you can use this. Like anything you would use on the skin, I would discontinue if any irritation occurs.
Sorry this was a little long winded but I hope this helps.

Sorry to keep pushing this up, but I have another question about the witch hazel and distilled water recipe; 6 oz dis. water, 2 oz witch hazel, 1 oz fo or eo...are these amounts all liquid measurements?  I'm used to weighing my fo, so I thought I had better ask to be sure.

Thanks in advance!

Witch hazel is also good to add in an aftershave..for insect bites..refreshing for a foot spray.

Cant answer the ? on weight measurements..but for candles it is by weight..never thought about it for B&B..I would think by measurement..I use pippett droppers so I guess that is right. Huh Undecided

Thanks!  I tried the distilled water and witch hazel and can say witch hazel does not affect the fo strength.  I was very surprised to see how strong a mixture this is and have warned folks to spray very little and if they feel the need for more in a few minutes, spray again.  I used Love Spell and I'm thinking of using a little less fo next time.

I didn't have a cloudy mixture, but the fo does settle in the bottom so I highly recommend a few shakes before every time it is used.

Is there a way to blend or is that possible when mixing water and fo?

Also, the mixture is great as a room or linen spray, but I have no idea how much fo to use for a body spray.  I just know that is way too strong for skin. Any help with that is very much appreciated!  Joyce

Judy from TDF showed me you can also use Alkyl Esters in place of Cyclomethicone. I bought some the other day but have not tried it and it is less expensive.
