Elizabeth's basic Luxury Bar - 3# batch

Basically this is what I use most of the time. Vary it once in a while so I don't get bored. Avocado Oil 4 oz. Cocoa Butter 2 oz. Coconut Oil 10 oz. Olive Oil 12 oz. palm Oil 6 oz. Palm kernel 4 oz. Rice Bran 6 oz. Shea Butter 4 oz. Although I use both RBO & Olive in the batch, found no softness. I don't discount water & use a 6% lye discount. Less than a week later, this bar was hard and ready to use - ask EB.

Since I only make M&P soap right now I have no idea what RBO means, can you explain it to me? I plan to branch out into CP soap soon.

RBO is Rice Bran Oil. This looks delightful - I wish I had all the ingrediants. Can I just buy a bar from one of you? LOL.

Hi Lizzy, me again with more newbie soaper questions.... Can recipes be done either CP or HP? This recipe says that it's ready in a week, and I was under the impression that CP had to cure for several weeks, so does that mean that this is a HP recipe? Also would you mind telling me how much water and lye to use since I'm still trying to figure out the calculators? Thanks. Getting ready to place my first order and give this soaping stuff a try.

Oopsa, you will love this recipe. I've used several different recipes, but I use this one most often. It makes a very nice bar of soap.

I don't know about you guys but I've found rice bran oil VERY hard to get ahold of! I called about 6 or 7 stores, no one carried it (not even asian markets as some suggested). Finally I found it at Williams Sonoma but the price was $20.00 for way more than I needed (easy to get though). I did a massive online search and found a great place that sells NOTHING BUT rice bran oil - and VERY affordable! They're in California (Sacramento?) which is also nice for me since I live in Oregon. I don't mean to be a tease but since I'm having computer problems, I can't provide the link right now, but here's how you access them - very easily: Do a google search, typing in "rice bran oil" and "California." They'll be the first to pop up. Something like The Rice Bran Oil Company. Just thought I'd share that since it took me so long to figure it out. May not be worth it if you live on the E. Coast - but for their prices, it may be. I think maybe their UPS has a set rate for savings though i could be wrong (if they do, it's to the advantage of us all).

Lizzy, do you use the refined shea for this recipe or the unrefined? Or does it matter?

I've never made soap before so this may sound really stupid - but what do you mean about discounting water and using a lye discount - I need really basic instructions! Thanks!
