Lip And Lotion Recipes

------------------------------------------------------------------------  --------

Peppermint Lotion

  2 oz. cocoa butter
5 oz. olive oil (cold pressed extra virgin)
1 oz. shea butter
1 tsp. beeswax
3-5 drops peppermint essential oil
2 oz peppermint tea
1 oz. aloe vera gel
1 T. liquid lecithin

Melt cocoa butter, olive oil, shea butter, and beeswax together. Mix the essential oil, scent aloe gel and lecithin together and wisk into the melted oils and wax. Continue to mix until cooled and then pour into containers. You may want to infuse the oil with herbs like calendula or chamomile. This recipe must be kept in the fridge.

Raspberry Oatmeal Hand Cream

  1/2 cup distilled water
1/8 tsp. borax
1/3 cup sweet almond oil
1 T. liquid lanolin
1 tsp. coconut oil
1 T. beeswax
15 drops raspberry fragrance oil
5 drops oatmeal, milk and honey fragrance oil

Combine water and borax in heavy pan over low heat; stir until borax dissolves. In separate saucepan, melt beeswax and add oils and lanolin, stirring until all well blended. Slowly (1 tsp at a time) add water/borax mixture into oil/wax mixture stirring constantly. Continue stirring until it forms a thick white cream and has cooled to room temp. Stir in fragrance oils, pour into jar and seal.

------------------------------------------------------------------------  --------

Silky Body Lotion

  1 cup aloe vera gel
1 teaspoon lanolin
1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
1/3 cup coconut oil
1/2 to 3/4 ounce beeswax
3/4 cup almond oil
1 1/2 teaspoons essential oil

Use a blender (or food processor) to mix the aloe vera gel, lanolin, & vitamin E oil. Microwave coconut oil & beeswax in a glass container on high 30 seconds, and stir. Repeat heating in 10-second blocks until fully melted. Stir in almond oil, reheating if necessary. Run blender or processor at low to medium speed, then pour in melted oils in thin stream. As the oil is blended in, the cream will turn white and blender's motor will start to grind. As soon as melted oils are added and you've achieved mayonnaise-like consistency, stop the blender, add essential oil and pulse-blend. Do not over blend. Transfer cream to glass jars while still warm - the lotion will thicken quickly. This lotion really absorbs well and leaves no residue on skin. This recipe makes two cups.

------------------------------------------------------------------------  --------

Jasmine Lotion

  1/4 cup apricot kernel oil
1 tsp. beeswax
1 tsp. cocoa butter
1 tsp. coconut oil
1/4 cup distilled water
1 tsp. aloe vera gel
1/2 tsp. glycerin
5 drops jasmine fragrance oil

Melt the cocoa butter and then blend in the oils over low heat - allow to cool. Combine the water, aloe vera gel, and glycerin into a bowl. Slowly drizzle in a small amount of the oil mixture and beat with a wire whisk. Continue to drizzle and beat until all the oil is blended into the water. Stir in five drops of jasmine fragrance. Pour into a container.

------------------------------------------------------------------------  --------

Lotion for Dry Skin

  1/8 tsp. Borax
1/4 c. distilled water
1/2 c. Fractionated Coconut Oil
1 T. grated beeswax
1 tsp. scent
1/8 tsp. lecithin
1/2 c. Aloe Vera Gel

Mix water and borax and bring almost to boiling. In a separate pan mix oil and beeswax until wax is melted. Slowly add borax/water to oil/beeswax, stirring briskly with a small wire whisk or a hand blender. Add scent while whisking. Let cool to room temperature. Once cool, add the Aloe Vera gel and whisk to incorporate fully into the lotion. Pour into your bottle.

------------------------------------------------------------------------  --------

Mint Body Lotion

1/2-cup mint water (see note below)
1/8 tsp. borax
1/2 c. sunflower oil
1 tsp. coconut oil
1 tsp. beeswax
3-4 drops peppermint oil (optional)

Mix together the mint water and the borax, stirring until well mixed. Set aside.
Mix together the sunflower oil, coconut oil, and beeswax in a glass measuring cup. Place the cup with the oils--beeswax mixture in a pan of water (about 1 to 2 inches of water), making a water bath. Heat over medium heat until the beeswax is melted (8 to 10 minutes), stirring occasionally.

When the wax is melted, bring the mint solution almost to boiling (put the glass cup with the mint water/borax in the microwave on High for 1 minute, or use a water bath on the stove top).

Remove the oils-beeswax mixture from the water bath. Slowly add mint water/borax to the mixture in the blender and whip.

Allow the lotion to cool completely. The consistency may seem a bit thin, but it will thicken as it cools. The lotion will be pale green in color. You may add the peppermint oil now if you wish.

Pour the lotion into a clean container with a lid. To use, massage a small amount into your skin.

Note: Mint water is made by boiling fresh or dried mint leaves in water and then letting the mixture cool. Strain off the mint leaves. I use 1-cup fresh mint (1/4 cup dried mint leaves) to 1-cup water.

------------------------------------------------------------------------  --------

Coconut Lip Gloss
  1/2 cup beeswax
1/3 cup coconut oil
coconut flavoring
lipstick slivers or mica
lip balm tubes or pots

Melt beeswax and coconut oil together. Remove from heat. Add flavor and lipstick or mica to your liking. FYI: red lipstick will make a very alluring pink! Shimmery lipstick is particularly nice. Pour into tubes or pots and let harden. Enjoy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------  --------

Cream Soda Lip Balm
  1/2 Tbls. grated beeswax
1/2 Tbls. grated Cocoa Butter
1 tsp. Coconut Oil
fragrance

Mix together and melt. It worked to melt it in the microwave for about 45 seconds. Pour into small container. The recipe can be expanded. I used bavarian cream flavoring for the fragrance and it smelled like cream soda.

Autumn Delight Lotion
  1/2-Cup Distilled Water
1/4-tsp. Borax
1/3-Cup Mineral Oil
2 tsp. Cocoa Butter
1 T. Grated Beeswax
10 Drops Woodland Fragrance Oil
5 Drops each Orange and Tangerine Fragrance Oil

Boil water in a saucepan and add borax, stirring until completely dissolved. Keep mixture on lowest heat. Over low heat in another saucepan heat mineral oil, beeswax and cocoa butter until butter and wax are melted. Pour oil mixture into a bowl. Very slowly drizzle water mixture into oil mixture stirring constantly with a wire whisk. Continue stirring until cream is room temperature (10-20 minutes). Stir in fragrance oils and bottle.

------------------------------------------------------------------------  --------

Lip Gloss

  2 tsp. beeswax
7 tsp. castor, jojoba or sweet almond oil
1 tsp. honey
5 drops of an essential oil (lemon, orange, peppermint, etc.)

Melt the oil and beeswax until beeswax is melted. Remove from heat and add honey. Whisk it all together. When the mixture is nearly cool add the essential oil, mix it up again and then pour into a lip balm container.
If you wish it to be a little harder, simply add more beeswax.

------------------------------------------------------------------------  --------

Lip balm

  2 T. castor oil
1 tsp. beeswax
1/2-tsp fragrance/flavoring

This is really two separate recipes. To make a lip balm, add flavoring. Alternatively, you can add a fragrance oil and make a solid perfume. Heat all ingredients until melted and then pour it into your container.

------------------------------------------------------------------------  --------

Sweet Honey Lip Balm

5-6 T. Sweet Almond or Jojoba, or vegetable oil
1-2 T. Beeswax
2 tsp honey
2 drops essential oil (tea tree, peppermint, etc.)

Melt together the oil and beeswax in a small saucepan over low heat or in a double boiler until melted. Remove from heat and add honey and blend mixture with a small whisk. Stir until cooled, and then add the essential oil. The essential oil helps preserve it; also, jojoba oil will help it stay good, since it does not turn rancid. You can mix the oils, too (ex. mix half jojoba/half shea butter...).

------------------------------------------------------------------------  --------

COCOA MINT LIP BALM

  1.5 oz. cocoa butter (non-deodorize)
1 oz. beeswax
1.5 oz. shea butter
.01 oz. pure Vitamin E
20 drops peppermint essential oil (optional)

You may wish to less or no peppermint if you don't like the "tingle" that peppermint leaves behind on your lips; the sensation disappears within a few minutes of application) In a heat proof measuring cup with a lip for pouring, melt together the cocoa butter, shea butter and beeswax over a double boiler. Once the butters and wax have completely liquefied, remove from heat. Stir with
a pop sickle stick to ensure the mix. Add Vitamin E and stir to incorporate. Add the essential oil and stir to combine. While mixture remains hot, pour into lip balm containers. You may spill a bit outside the containers as you get used to steadying your hand to pour. If this happens, wait for the mixture to harden and wipe the containers with a clean cloth. Seal, label and enjoy!!

Lip Balm
Ingredients:  1/2 ounce beeswax beads
    4 ounces sweet almond oil
    1 teaspoon colored jojoba beads
2 teaspoons essential oil or food flavoring oil
We carry Cherry & Banana flavoring oils.

Some good essential oil choices that are nice are Tangerine, Lemon,        Sweet Orange or Lime.  The citrus oils seem to be popular for this application.

Utensils needed:  8 ounce glass measuring cup, teaspoon measuring spoon, stainless spoon for stirring and 1/4 ounce lip balm jars.
Put the 4 ounces of sweet almond oil in measuring cup, add beeswax beads and jojoba beads and melt in microwave. Stir with spoon, and when cooled a bit, add essential or flavoring oil.  Pour into lip balm jars, and when cool, label.

Almond Oil/Honey Lip Balm

  8 oz. sweet almond oil
1.5-2.5 oz. beeswax
1 t. honey

Melt almond oil and beeswax together in a pyrex measuring container. Whisk in honey and pour into containers.

------------------------------------------------------------------------  --------

Cocoa Butter Lip Balm

  2.5 oz. cocoa butter
2.6 oz. beeswax
1.4 oz. sweet almond oil

Melt all together and then pour into containers.

------------------------------------------------------------------------  --------

Flavored Lip Balm

  2 tsp. beeswax
7-8 tsp. light oil (sweet almond oil, castor, jojoba oil)
1 tsp. honey
5 drops flavoring

Melt oil and beeswax until wax is melted. Remove from heat and add honey. Blend thoroughly, stirring constantly. Add flavorings and put into containers.

------------------------------------------------------------------------  --------

Fresh Peppermint Lip Balm

  2 T. petroleum jelly
1 tsp. beeswax
10-14 drops peppermint essential oil

Melt petroleum jelly, and then add beeswax. When melted, remove from heat and add peppermint EO. Pour into a container and cool.

------------------------------------------------------------------------  --------

Honey Lip Cream
  1 tsp. honey
1 tsp melted beeswax
2 tsp almond oil

Melt honey and beeswax in a double boiler, add almond oil. Put into a jar and shake. Pour into molds or jars and allow cream to set for at least 10 minutes before using.

PVSoaps All Natural Lipstick

Recipe makes approximately 4 ozs. ~ all ingredients are weighed
Phase I
2.8 ozs Castor Oil
.08 ozs Iron Oxide/Mica Powder/D&C color (a combination to obtain the
    desired shade of lipstick)
.36 ozs Mica White (for a pastel shimmer lipstick) otherwise add this additional
    amount of another pigment.

Phase II
  .5 ozs Beeswax Pearls
  .32 ozs Carnauba Wax
  .06 ozs Vitamin E Oil
  .16 ozs Lanolin

Phase III
drops of Grapefruit Seed Extract
drops of any all natural flavor oil (we used Cranberry)

Put the ingredients from Phase I into a small pan over very low heat.  Be sure to pulverize the iron oxide, mica powder, D&C color and/ or Lip Tints before adding them to the pot. Stir well.  Add the ingredients from Phase II and heat until the mixture reaches 170° or until fully melted.  Remove from heat then add the ingredients from Phase III and pour into lipstick tubes or lip pots.

This lipstick has a fantastic feel similar to lip balm, and the color will show on your lips.  It has great staying power and doesn't feel heavy or greasy.

Vegan Lip Balm

2 ozs Hemp Seed Oil, Avocado Oil, or Almond Oil
1 oz Virgin Coconut Oil
1.2 ozs of Candelilla Wax
1/4 tsp. Rosemary Extract
few drops of Vitamin E Oil (Tocopherol)
few drops of essential or flavor oils or a combination.  We used
tangerine essential oil, boysenberry and cranberry flavor oils.

Melt the candelilla wax in a pan over low heat.  Once melted add the
remaining ingredients except for the flavor or essential oils.  Heat through and transfer into a microwave container with a pour spout.  Add the flavor and/or essential oil - stir well and pour immediately into lip balm tubes or containers.  Use a pipette to top off the lip balm tubes.  If mixture starts to solidify before you're finished pouring, heat for a few seconds in the microwave.  Recipe makes about 5 ounces of lip balm.

Isn't borax harmful to the skin?
Thanks,
Colette

Does anyone know how long these recipes will last without preservatives.  I heard that bacteria could form without preservatives.  Is this true?

I probably should have put in a disclaimer or something. I thought I wrote (but I can't find it if I did) that these are recipes I have collected on the net or in books. I have not tried most of them and will not be responsible for providing people with suppliers, or answers for all the various things that could happen during the making/use of any of the above.

These I find very helpful;

And the people here http://www.candletech.com/cgi-local/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=bathandbody are very helpful and knowledgable.
