Newbie @ slab swirls - UPD Batch#2...

OK, this is how you learn, screw things up. My standard RBO recipe, done in a slab instead of a log mold. I poured it at way too thick a trace, so when I swirled, it got really bumpy. I know some try for the look, but I was looking for smooth, not the Himalayas LOL.. Will probably cut it after work, I'll post another pic so you can see how the swirls DIDN'T go all the way through like they're supposed to. Still sellable but not what I pictured in my head. And it won't fit in my normal packaging box, so I'll have to come up with something different. Swirled w/ chromium green oxide, scented with litsea cubeba essential oil.

Hey Robin, been there, done that. Not too bad and even though your swirls did not go all the way to the bottom, with a little lighter trace and pouring kinda high, they will. Try the handy dandy cheese slicer to get the mountain peaks off and make balls out of the scraps. I think it looks pretty darn good.

Good idea about the cheese slicer, I'll see how thick this slab really is. I'll see how it feels in the hand, I might just leave the peaks. It went thick on me cuz I was trying to go back to my normal RT (room temp) methods. But the dang PKO didn't want to melt (chunks were too big, I was too lazy to cut it up more), so I SBd it longer than I wanted to get everything mixed. Ticked me off, cuz I had just watched a swirling video and had a great picture in my head LOL. I love this recipe, it uses 10% avocado oil and heavy whipping cream.

I think it's really pretty. Maybe not what you pictured in your head, but I would buy it! I'm eager to see what it looks like once it's cut up.

Litsea cubeba is lemon. More of a candy lemon drop kind of lemon than lemongrass, which is a lot tarter. It's also used as an anchor, especially nice for other citrus scents, so they don't seem to fade as fast. It's pretty strong, I can use it at .3 oz ppo and it will hold for quite a while.

And here it is cut Crumbly, cracking, no swirl all the way through, pretty awful LOL. But I'll let it sit for a few weeks, it still needs some sap time, and I might be able to trim it for guest soaps.

Guest soaps? Shooooot. I'll take some of that off your hands. The swirls look great, IMO. I'm curious on the EO, too.

I don't see anything wrong with that. I think it is pretty just the way it is.

Here's batch#2, getting a bit better. Scented w/ EOs - orange 5x & patchouli, swirled w/ black oxide. Still need to do it at a bit thinner trace. I won't show my 3rd batch - I did that one at TOO thin a trace and have lye pockets in the bottom. Ouch.

I think it's beautiful! Wish my mess-ups looked like that. Cindy, her soaps are awesome!Get some. Ask me how I know? Robin, I'm falling in love with RBO. I'm so glad I finally ordered some. Best purchase I've made so far. I can't get over how silky it feels when soaped.
