one more question...

since the recipe I'm using shows all the ounces of everything I need.... I don't need to put it through the lye calculator - right?

I'm thinking the only time I have to do this is when I'm trying to come up with my own recipe.. - which I'm sure is a long, long way off...

thanks

I would always run it thru the lye calculator just to be safe.  Better safe than sorry Wink

People can make typos, books can have mispellings - I've seen lye heavy soaps in books. Always run a new recipe through a calculator, even if you get it from here. Good practice, and a good habit to start anyway Smiley

Absolutely run it through a lye calculator Smiley  One transposed number in the oils or the lye could cause a failed and/or harmful batch.  I never make a batch without double-checking the numbers with a lye calc.

Teri, the soap calc at www.thesage.com is pretty easy to learn to use.  Look at every box and fill it in if needed.  I use that calculator if I have a recipe in oz.  If the recipe is in percentages I use the sooz calc.

Wax and a wick, what's so hard about that.
