Well... a really big mess now! LMAO! I wanted to make this: Earth Clay Soap 1 lb. M&P soap base 1 Tablespoon Clay 2 Tablespoons Jojoba Oil 1/4 Cup Distilled Water Colorant and Scent But no Jojoba Oil... so I used Extra Virgin Olive Oil Oh and 2tsp Glycerin since it's the cheap M&P base...

Hey, Satin. Don't use a stick blender next time. Mix it in with a spoon. That may be why it caused a mess.

| Umm, yeah, the first half of the mess...LOL I was using an oversized 1c Pyrex measuring cup. Just barely enough room... until I stuck the stick blender in there... hehe Well, ya see... I used a wooden spoon first. Then when I added the olive oil, it went straight to the top and wouldn't mix all the way, no matter how fast I stirred It was much like playing Dominos! The chain reaction of goofs was just too fast to stop...LOL Then of course, I wanted to use the cute heart shaped tube mold... that didn't seal at the bottom... Well, you get the idea

hmm i didnt do m&p for long, but when i did do it, I was told you could only add 1tbsp of oils/butters (combined) and i've never heard of adding water to it. I'd be afraid it would be too soft.

| I've heard of it, and done it! And more than a tblsp of water too. M&P soap is extremely versatile, at least the base that I use is. And nomatter how much stuff I add to it, it never seems to get hard or brittle. I shouldn't say that though, cause just as soon as I do...well~ I jinx myself a lot

Well... I found the recipe here.. and being that it was my first time, not to mention I don't understand very much yet, it was worth a shot. Then again... I don't really know what it's supposed to end up like either I don't really see much point of just melting and pouring it into a mold... it would just look like it came. Even with color and FO, it wouldn't be any different than buying a bar of soap at the store..lol. I've read posts and opinions for and against water in M&P, so who's right? I assumed the water and oil was to counteract the clay added.... dunno

I would think that's what the water was for too..but we all know i've been wrong before tehe! I made a batch last night, and added sweet almond oil to it..quite a bit really, and it didn't have a lick of clay in it, just oatmeal. So maybe that's why it didn't come out over oily or whatever. I just figure for every dry ingredient I add, there should be something to counteract it, and I play around with it all the time. I've added all kinds of oils, spices, oatmeal, real goats milk, water, lavender buds..you name it.

I thought about Sweet Almond Oil first, but the small amount I have doesn't smell very good. I got it from the classifieds. Since I've never smelled it before, I've no idea what it should smell like. But I didn't think my first try needed any more strikes against it...LOL
