I'm sure this has been done before, but since it's frequently asked, I figures the posts are buried. A list of suggested coloring methods and trials/amounts would be helpful to everyone, especially us newbies. This is some of the stuff I gathered here. Please add any info you have Some of this is repative... http://www.mullerslanefarm.com/soapcolors.html http://crafty.dyskolus.com/coloring/coloring.html on Jul 8th, 2005, 11:30am, RobinInOR wrote:| Most food colorants are FD&C colors and will work OK. All FD&C type colors (even ones made for b&b) might change color on you. The B&B ones are a bit stronger and won't fade as much, but they do tend to migrate over time if you try to do swirls and such - they can bleed. |

Ones I've used include: cocoa powder instant coffee paprika cinnamon turmeric oatmeal parsley seaweed flakes / kelp As Jennifer stated, go easy on the spices when you first start experimenting because some spices can be irritants when too much is used. hth, Lisa |

That's mostly what I use - the colors stay truer. Micas work best in swirls - too $$ to use as a full bar color. Liquid dyes can change color on you because they're sensitive to pH, hopefully the vendor has color chips that tell you what colors you'll get in CP versus what you get in MP or other bath items if it's different. |

This is what she told me: Liquid clears are best for solid colored bars as they do tend to bleed, so like if you were doing two different colors, or embeds, and used liquid clears for both, they would probably bleed. liquid micas do not bleed, and are best used for embeds or multi colored bars. liquid pigments don't bleed but they don't get as dark of colors as the liquid clears or micas. powdered dyes are best for cp soap, even though they have this under mp soap. sold clears, opaques and micas are chips that they have already made up and you break off pieces that you need, just like candle dye blocks I guess. She said I'd be the most happy with the liquid clears and micas for the mp soaping. She was sooo nice, told me to have fun with it etc. Anyway, now you all know the differences, learn something new everyday huh?! |
