Hi Lynda, I got in touch with a cosmetologist friend who owns her own shop and this is her advice:
"I wouldn't clarify after every swim, that's just too much stripping.

Have her wet her hair BEFORE jumping into the pool with fresh cool water. The hair will suck up less of the clorine that way. As soon as she gets out of the pool, she needs to rinse it with fresh water as well. This way she shouldn't need to clarify daily. She should clarify weekly however.  (We have a problem down here with some well water being high in iron. The ONLY product I have found to really do the job is by "Malibu 2000". It's a crystal gel that you mix with 2 oz of HOT water, put a plastic cap on and sit under the dryer for 30 minutes. This gets out most of the build up. They also have shampoo. Sally's doesn't carry it, but they'll tell you they have something similar. NO!!! Find the malibu 2000)

After a clarifying treatment do a deep conditioning treatment. She needs a good moisturizing conditioner to use after every shampoo, and if her hair is VERY dry, do a deep conditioning treatment 2X a week. If it's just a little dry, then only once a week if she's in the pool and sun a lot. It does sound like a lot, but it really isn't.

The trimming on the full moon is true too. If she trims her hair within 3 days before or ON the full moon, it's going to grow faster. Strange, I know. But if you think about it farmers have planted by the moon for eons.

The products I use most for dry hair are by Framesi. They are the "Indulge" shampoo, Clarifying shampoo, Reconditioner 2, and Drench deep conditioner.

I hope that helps."

When hair is exposed to the elements, especially chlorinated water, it's just going to get damaged. As I'm sure you know, the ends of hair are no longer alive, so regular trims and cuts are needed to keep hair looking healthy.

I'm thinking if you take off 2-3 inches, you'll get rid of all the dead ends and her hair will look nice and bouncy again!

Second this. Your dd needs at least 3, I was thinking 4 inches off. She then needs about 1/2 inch at least everyother month, if not every month. Swimming will kill it, your best bet is to use the swimming shampoo or a clarifying shampoo as soon as she gets out. Dont let her run around, expecally in the sun, with the pool water in her hair. Something that may help is to put some conditioner on her hair before she gets in the pool. Wet hair with conditioner is even better. If her hair is already wet, thats less pool water it will soak up. If you dont want it cut, dont blow dry it unless you need to and do a deep conditioning treatment at least 2x a month. Dont do hot oil treatments like vo5, they dont do anything but coat the hair strand. The best clarifying shampoo in the world (IMPO) is Paul Mitchel's Shampoo 3. Its not that bad for a bottle. You can pick up deep conditioning treatments from your neighborhood Sally's Beauty Supply. They have a Lorel one in a tub that works great. Or their Ion brand.

Well, I just realized everyone already said what I said, but since I typed it all out, I will just leave it here.  Grin

Just wanted to add this link - was referred to it for something else entirely, but it's a totally cool forum for long hair people.

Well I had no idea you worked at a Paul Mitchell partner school. That is, I am assumeing you work and are not a student, althought I guess I could be wrong. I did hair for a while, went to school here in KY, PM was some of my favorite products to recommend, because they worked great and wouldnt break the bank. My hubby cant live without his Tea Tree.
