After being prodded by choosegreen Wink, we can now upload photos directly to the message boards.  I have also created this dedicated category where users can post photos of candles that they just feel like sharing. I think it will be a great resource for candlemakers at all skill levels.

The file size limitation is 60 KB and it must be one of the following formats: jpg, gif, bmp.

Cheers,

Embarassed EmbarassedOK, now that happens sometimes on aluminum molds if they are not properly cleaned using a Scotch Brand metal tape to seal the wick hole, but it never happens when I use the tin molds using the magnets on the bottom of the pillars. You can get the magnets from Peak Candle Supply. I hope this helps. Grin Grin

Hi Bob,

I would like to share with you a way to wick your aluminum molds. I've never had a leak this way.

After you run your wick through the mold and have it tied off, pull it snug at the bottom and cut it leaving about an inch of excess. Holding the wick in place put a wick screw in the hole to secure the wick. When you put in the wick screw only turn it about one revolution. Just enough to hold the wick tight but not damage the mold. After the wick is secure, wrap the end around the screw and apply a good amount of mold sealer. I use both the white and green mixed 50/50. This seems to give a nice pliable but tacky consistency. Spread the mold sealer out into a pancake. I do this just enough so my mold will set flat on the pouring surface. After the candle is set, just peel off the mold sealer, unwrap the wick and take out the screw. Just put your mold sealer away and you can use it again over and over. I never clean the bottom of the mold. I only wipe out the inside with a paper towel and I'm ready for the next candle.

The only time I ever had a leak was when I put it in the oven to heat it up and it got too hot and the sealer melted. Since that time I never heat my aluminum molds because I discovered they didn't need it.

Hope this helps Huh

Hi Len,

Good to hear from you. I will try the mold sealer next time I pour a pillar, I sure it will work. Thanks for the information.

Hi again Bob,

This method is actually the same method as the basic pillar method on the home page. There are some good photos there to walk you through. Wink Actually, Alan taught me this method many moons ago.(By e-mail) It took a little time to get used to it (Just like anything in life), but now wicking a pillar mold is a breeze and the clean-up is minimal. I have found that there are as many ways of doing things as there are candle makers. This method works for me so I thought I would pass it on. Cheesy

Thank you Forum Admin!  I really appreciate it! I can't wait to make something and use the new feature! Grin Grin  I might just have to go home and take a pic of the candles I have made and have burned already just for fun.  I am super new still and have only made less than 10 pillars yet.
Go ahead everyone inspire me! Cheesy
